MY STORY

Minneapolis. My home and the city I love!

As a lifelong resident, this city is woven into the very fabric of who I am and has greatly contributed to my core values of community, perseverance, and advocacy. From the Northside's Harrison Neighborhood to the vibrant West Bank, and finally to the Lyndale Neighborhood where I currently live with my wife Molly, and two children, my journey mirrors the city's diverse and dynamic spirit. The city's public schools and parks nurtured my growth, while my single mother's resilience and union values instilled a deep sense of solidarity and justice. My active engagement in coaching, board service, and volunteering reflects my commitment to fostering a strong community. With over a decade of experience in labor unions and a significant tenure in the corporate sector, I have amassed a blend of grassroots activism and professional acumen. My unwavering stance on advocating for the rights of Minneapolis residents, regardless of the strength of the opposition, underscores a profound dedication to the city I call home. This is not just my personal story, but also a shared experience of countless individuals who find their identity intertwined with the city of Minneapolis.

MY PRIORITIES

Public Safety

My vision for public safety is to emphasize a holistic and proactive approach. One that recognizes the importance of community involvement and the need for a multifaceted strategy that includes law enforcement reform, mental health support, and youth development. I believe that such an approach can indeed foster a sense of security and trust within the community, which is essential for all of us to thrive. By addressing the root causes of crime and investing in the well-being of at-risk youth, this strategy aims not only to reduce crime rates but also to build a foundation for a resilient and vibrant community.

Equitable Housing

Addressing the critical issue of equitable housing requires a forward thinking approach. By increasing affordable housing opportunities and exploring pathways to home ownership, we can make strides towards stability for all residents. I will work to bolster collaborative efforts with county and state entities which are essential in tackling homelessness with compassion and effectiveness. The ultimate goal is to ensure safe, stable housing, while also providing the necessary support to address the broader social determinants that impact public health.

Economic Opportunity

Job development is a complex issue that hinges on the synergy between public infrastructure, skilled labor, and educational opportunities. As mayor, I would prioritize the commitment to fostering partnerships between businesses and labor organizations as a forward-thinking approach to economic growth. Securing grants and investing in worker training to equip the workforce with the skills necessary for the jobs of tomorrow. Moreover, I would also emphasize the importance of nurturing the small business ecosystem reinforcing the fact that they are the backbone of a thriving community.
